RUBELLA – IgG

Clinical Significance:

Rubella virus is the sole member of the Rubivirus genus in the Togaviridae family. Unlike most Togaviruses it is not arthropod-borne, but is acquired via the respiratory route. The presence of IgG antibodies to rubella is indicative of recent infection. In the absence of a current or recent infection, a demonstration of specific IgG on a serum sample is evidence of immunity to rubella. Negative IgG results indicate no detectable level of antibodies to rubella virus and are therefore susceptible to a primary infection.
